The Mind Yourself Garden – Small Show Garden

About the Garden - Small Garden

This garden is designed to provide a calm, restorative space for the person to engage with nature and to take a moment to ‘mind themselves’.

On the periphery, the planting is beautiful and highly ornamental, representing the tendency to present to the outside world that ‘everything is fine’. Entering the central section, the paving gradually breaks up on the transition to a peaceful enclosure with seating and woodland-style planting. Three multi-stem Prunus (cherry) trees are combined with native and non-native plants in a restful colour scheme.

Here, the person is encouraged to leave behind the outside world, to reconnect with their feelings, to let the restorative effects of nature lower their stress levels, or to have meaningful interactions and reconnect with other people. This is a true plant lover’s garden, which is a place to ‘do’, to potter and care for plants, but also a place to simply ‘be’.
